The Car
One of only 45 factory-built 993 Cup 3.8 RSRs, retaining its matching-numbers M64/75 engine and G50/30 gearbox, with only three owners and 13,308 km from new.
Offered here is one of only 45 factory-built Porsche 911 Cup 3.8 RSRs produced by Porsche Motorsport. Developed for international GT endurance competition, the 993 RSR represents the ultimate evolution of Porsche’s air-cooled racing 911. This exceptionally original example is presented in Guards Red and retains its matching-numbers Type M64/75 engine and G50/30 six-speed gearbox.
Unlike earlier 993 Cup cars later fitted with RSR engines, this is a true factory-built 911 Cup 3.8 RSR produced under Porsche Motorsport’s dedicated 20631 RSR Package Vehicle specification. Porsche built just 30 examples for 1997 and 15 for 1998. Its naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six produces approximately 349 horsepower and is complemented by a welded Matter roll cage, aluminum hood, ball-jointed suspension, two-way adjustable Bilstein dampers, GT2-derived endurance brakes, adjustable aerodynamics and wide-body fender flares.
Delivered new in July 1997 to Michael Doolin of Sandy, Utah, the car was never campaigned by a professional race team. Its competition use was limited to select Porsche Club and National Auto Sport Association events, helping preserve its remarkable originality. It has had only three owners from new and shows 13,308 kilometers (8,269 miles).
In 2016, Kelly-Moss Road and Race in Madison, Wisconsin completed a comprehensive inspection and engine evaluation. The front and rear bumpers were professionally refinished to remove period racing graphics while the original competition interior was preserved. Acquired by its current owner in 2017, the RSR joined a significant Porsche collection in Germany, where it remains today.
Combining matching-numbers authenticity, documented ownership, exceptionally low mileage and careful collector stewardship, this authentic factory-built 993 RSR is suited to historic motorsport, concours display or a premier Porsche collection. Additional documentation, engineering records and build specifications are available to qualified buyers; inspections are welcome by appointment.
