The Car

Originally registered to Porsche AG Weissach in 1973, this ex-works development car helped test future Porsche components and the Carrera RSR homologation program. Restored by Early 911S, TÜV Rheinland authenticated, with just 34 km since restoration.

Few Porsche competition-derived automobiles possess factory provenance as compelling as that of this extraordinary 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.0.

Originally registered to Porsche AG Entwicklungszentrum Weissach on June 19, 1973, this chassis began life as a factory development vehicle rather than a customer-delivered automobile. Initially built as a 911 T, it was retained by Weissach to evaluate components and engineering solutions for future Porsche models and to support the development and homologation program for the legendary 3.0-liter Carrera RSR, helping pave the way for Porsche’s next generation of factory racing success.

In 1976, the factory released the car into private ownership, where it has since remained in the hands of discerning collectors.

Approximately five years ago, the car underwent a comprehensive, no-expense-spared restoration by the renowned German Porsche specialist Early 911S. The restoration returned the car to an almost-new condition, using genuine factory Carrera RS 3.0 components wherever possible. The chassis, suspension, and running gear were rebuilt to exact factory specifications, retaining the original lightweight aluminum doors and hood rather than reproduction panels.

The car rides on forged Fuchs alloy wheels fitted with correct Michelin tires to period specifications. Inside, the cockpit remains exceptionally original, with factory instruments, gauges, upholstery, trim, and interior appointments in outstanding condition.

Power comes from a correct-type 3.0-liter air-cooled flat-six producing approximately 230 horsepower and equipped with Bosch mechanical fuel injection. The engine was professionally rebuilt by BS Motorsport (Neil Bainbridge) in the United Kingdom using original factory components before the car entered climate-controlled collector storage.

In June 2022, the vehicle underwent an extensive forensic authenticity examination by TÜV Rheinland. Radiographic inspection confirmed the chassis and VIN were original, with no evidence of alterations, replacement stampings, hidden welds, structural repairs, or other irregularities.

Since its restoration was completed, the Porsche has covered only 34 kilometers and is presented today in virtually concours-level condition.

Combining documented factory development history, exceptional originality, expert restoration, verified authenticity, and outstanding presentation, this remarkable Porsche is among the most fascinating early competition-related 911s available. Equally suited for the world’s leading concours events, Porsche Club gatherings, and prestigious private collections, it offers a rare opportunity to acquire a genuine piece of Weissach engineering history.
