The Car
One of only 484 convertibles built. A concours-restored Letter Series 300C with the matching 392 FirePower Hemi (375 hp), presented in Gauguin Red with multiple national show honors, including AACA National Senior.
Before the muscle car era had a name, Chrysler built the 300C. Combining Virgil Exner’s dramatic Forward Look styling with the legendary 392 cubic inch FirePower Hemi V8, the 1957 Chrysler 300C Convertible was among the fastest, most exclusive and most expensive American automobiles of its time. With only 484 convertibles produced, it remains one of the rarest and most desirable members of Chrysler’s celebrated Letter Series.
Powered by its matching 392 cu. in. FirePower Hemi V8, producing 375 horsepower through Chrysler’s smooth TorqueFlite push-button automatic transmission, the 300C could exceed 125 mph, remarkable performance for a full-size luxury convertible in 1957. It was a car that could comfortably cross the country while outperforming many contemporary sports cars.
The 1957 model also introduced the convertible body style to the 300 Letter Series. Its unmistakable trapezoidal grille, quad headlamps, sweeping tail fins and restrained use of chrome perfectly capture Virgil Exner’s revolutionary design language, which transformed Chrysler styling in the late 1950s. The elegant interior combines luxury with purposeful instrumentation, making it one of the finest American grand touring cars ever produced.
This example is presented in its highly desirable Gauguin Red finish, with a beautifully coordinated tan interior and tan convertible top. Professionally restored and carefully maintained, it has earned numerous national concours honors, including AACA National Senior recognition and multiple prestigious show awards. The restoration remains exceptionally fresh, and the car presents today at a level expected of one of the finest surviving 300C convertibles.
A true collector-grade Chrysler, this rare Letter Car offers an exceptional opportunity to acquire one of America’s most important postwar performance automobiles. Equally at home on the concours field, in a distinguished collection or at a grand touring event, the 300C remains a defining automobile of the 1950s. Offered from Palm Beach, Florida with a clean Florida title.
