The 993 RSR was introduced in 1993 to participate in national championship series in Europe, Japan, and the USA. and was the last air-cooled 911 produced by the German Manufacturer. Officially named the 911 Cup RSR, customers had a choice of three distinct factory-built engines for the stripped-down race car. Straight from the factory, the RSR competed in 24 Hours Daytona, Spa, and Le Mans.
The 3.8 liters highly tuned engine generated 349 HP with a resonance intake system, six intake plenums with separate throttle valves, a different camshaft profile, and no catalytic converters ready for endurance racing. Standard equipment is a fully welded roll cage, alloy bonnet, front strut brace, two-way Bilstein suspension, unique front spoiler and adjustable wing, fender flares, a single racing seat and harness, battery switch, and fire extinguishing system. The cup-based 993 RSR had a lightweight hood, doors, and a stripped-out interior in typical Porsche fashion.
Here is a rare Guards Red 911 Cup 3.8 RSR with the original numbers matching engine M64/75 and a G50/30 close-ratio six-speed manual transaxle. The RSR arrived in the USA in 1997 and was delivered in July 1997 to Michael Doolin of Sandy, Utah. Even though professional racing teams used most Porsche RSRs, this 993 Cup RSR never raced professionally and only participated in Porsche Club and National Auto Sport Association racing. Porsche only produced 45 Porsche 993 Cup RSR race cars for the 1996/1998 racing season and 30 for 1997.
This 993 RSR had just three owners from the new and retaining original engine and transmission. The odometer shows 13,145 kilometers or approx. 8,167 miles. The previous owner purchased the car in mid-2016 and was sent to the industry powerhouse Kelly-Moss Road and Race in Madison, Wisconsin, for a thorough inspection, including the engine. Kelly-Moss repainted the front and rear bumpers to remove the painted-on graphics previously. The interior remains all-original.
The owner acquired the 993 RSR in 2017, adding it to his Porsche collection in Germany, where the car is still today. However, due to the classic car collection reduction, the vehicle is now available for sale.
The car is in Germany and is part of a private collection. We can help with shipping. To find a 993 3.8 RSR that survived and unmolested is quite rare.
