1973 Porsche 911 – Modified Carrera 3.0 RS
Ex-Work – Factory Test Car
A rare factory model built to homologate the Carrera RSR
This rare, modified Carrera RS 3.0 claims the unusual distinction of being a former 911 T factory test car. It was registered initially to Porsche AG Entwicklungszentrum Weissach on June 19, 1973, to road test components and parts for the upcoming Porsche models. Also, to homologate a 3-liter RSR factory race car that allowed them to race the 3.0 Liter Carrera RSR under the factory banner.
In 1976 the Porsche factory sold the 911 test car to a private owner/collector.
Approximately five years ago, the 911 RS test car was completely restored to almost new conditions by the well-known German restoration company, “Early 911 S”, with manufacturer’s parts of the original Carrera 3.0 RS. The chassis and running gear are technically in mint condition. All chassis parts are accurate to the original, including lightweight components, aluminum doors, and hood. These are original parts and not reproductions.
The standard Michelin tires are mounted in sizes 18/60/15 and 23/62/15 on forged Fuchs rims. The interior is in mint condition. The interior, upholstery, gauges, instruments, and seat trim are original. The vehicle’s trim parts are complete and in original, new condition.
The 3.0 Liter/230 bhp SOHC air-cooled horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine with Bosch mechanical fuel injection engine was updated at BS MotorSport- Neil Bainbridge in the UK from the original and same type of engine components. After that, the collector kept the car in dry storage.
A Radiographic forensic examination of the vehicle to prove the authenticity of a Porsche Vehicle took place in June 2022 by TUV Rheinland. The study of the VIN/production number showed no alterations. The examination to identify manipulations on inserted numbers, detection of weld seams, typical and untypical welds, hairline cracks, or other damages did not detect any of these.
After total restoration, currently displaying 34 kilometers and poised for further driving use or exhibition at Concours and Porsche Club events, this rare and highly modified Carrera RS 3.0 is a notable example.
The car’s fascinating factory history and robust provenance documentation offer an opportunity for Stuttgart enthusiasts and 911 connoisseurs worldwide.
Optics, history, and originality put this vehicle in the absolute top class. The car is in Germany and is part of a private collection. We can help with shipping.
