The Carrera RSR 3.8 was effectively a factory homologation special, extremely successful and competitive in 1993 with an outright win at Spa 24hrs, Interlagos 1000kms, and class wins at Le Mans and 1000 km of Suzuka. Available in late 1993, direct from the factory to special customer race teams as a turnkey race car. With the 964 Carrera RSR, Porsche returned to production-based GT racing in the early 1990s. Based on RS 3.8, the RSR was constructed as a powerful racing sports car for use in major GT competitions. Between April 1993 and December 1994, only 51 examples of the 964 RSR 3.8 were produced in the race department of Porsche!
Powered by a 3.8 liter normally aspirated engine developing circa 350hp and depending on the rules for ADAC, BPR, Le Mans or IMSA, air restrictor plates had to be fitted to limit the horsepower output. The RSR used the same 5-speed gearbox as the Carrera RS, with 40% limited-slip-differential and gearing selected for a top speed of 265km/h (165 mph). The body shell was reinforced at many points and stiffened by a welded-in roll cage. The external recognition feature was a unique rear wing and wide Turbo wheel arches covering Speedline rims.
Complete with all the original factory paperwork and manufacturer’s statement of origin; the purchaser has an ideal opportunity to acquire a great and genuine 1994 Porsche RSR race car with excellent investment potential and growing eligibility for future BPR revival events.
The car has been part of a Private Collection for several years and is stored in Germany. However, the vehicle is now available for sale due to the closing of the classic car collection.
