In 1967 the A-Series Porsche production line was divided into the entry-level 911T, the standard 911L for Lux, and the sporting 911S. The 911L was the 911 2.0 from previous years with only minor updates such as new door handles, a brushed aluminum dashboard, and other little details. In Europe, considered the midrange model, it featured engine Type 901/06 (Type 901/07 with Sportomatic) rated at 130 hp. In North America, the 911L was the highest-level offering.

This untouched 1968 Porsche 911 L (SWB), Sportomatic (Sportomatic – still requires shifting, just no clutch), all original and unrestored, is a true time capsule 911, having never been apart for restoration or repair of any kind. Excellent original Paint, beautiful original interior with factory wood wheel. Near-perfect tinted glass, good trim, light assemblies, and deep-six Fuchs wheels by Weidman. No rust anywhere ever. It runs, drives, shifts, and operates as it should be.

This unique Porsche 911L was taken in on trade at the famed California Porsche dealership of Vasek Polak, whose Manhattan Beach, CA, dealership became 1959 the first stand-alone dealership in the United States. Polak brought the car home for his wife, Anna-Maria, to try out because of the Sportomatic transmission. She tried but did not like it, so Vasek moved the car to his warehouse and parked it there. His dealership retained it until it was sold to a collector after Polak’s death in 1997. In 2000 it changed hands again and was adequately stored for over 20 years.

The current owner acquired the car in the USA and imported it to Germany for his collection.

Although it has reportedly spent most of its life between private collections, this unique 911L has been carefully maintained and treated to a mechanical refresh in 2023.

This beautifully preserved 911L Sportomatic makes an excellent investment and a fine addition to any Porsche collection.
